Noun [Arabic]

IPA: /tˤaj.juːn/
Etymology: Looks like an Aramaic cognate of ظَيَّان (ẓayyān), however also like exposing an Ancient Greek ending: probably a loan from Aramaic, in view of the attestation of Classical Syriac ܕܝܢܘܣ (dynws, “celandine”), a distortion of Ancient Greek χελιδόνιον (khelidónion). Compare the botanically close Arabic طُبَّاق (ṭubbāq, “Dittrichia viscosa”) having a similar correspondence ṭ /tˀ/ to d /d/.
